Hear me out—
Whoever compared a career to a ladder clearly never liked rollercoasters. My background is a non-linear ride full of laughs, thrills, and a few sharp turns that brought me here: composing music for film and media through a lens shaped by an unconventional path I love.
Music was my favorite hobby growing up. I started playing piano by ear at four and was classically trained until sixteen. I fell in love with singing harmonies at six and spent time in local choirs. At eleven, music started to move me through dance, especially contemporary and ballet.
And then, I earned a degree in Psychology and Nonprofit Management and worked in HR and Operations. (Read: I love understanding how people think, what makes them tick, and how to communicate the process while keeping projects on track. Also read: I was doing what I was taught one “should” do and not pursuing a career in the arts.)
Ultimately though, I love the power and universality of music and that’s what pulled me back to pursue it professionally. Music has always been my way of translating emotion into something tangible. I’ve always had film scores on repeat; they take you on a journey during the film that you can revisit and reintegrate again and again with each listen. Music connects you to yourself, to others, to the story you’re watching, and to the world around you. I love that I get to contribute to that magic.
Composing is inner work, a quiet openness to whatever wants to come through. For me, it’s done by feel, play, collaboration, instinct. When something “hits me in the gut,” as a mentor once said, that’s when the real partnership begins. I find it truly remarkable that a film is composed of a team of artists’ lenses all coming together to create one piece of art. I hope to create lasting moments that help people process, remember, and feel.
